It is that time of year again. When the weather gets hot and it’s time to gather up the family and take them away from it all. In this economy though, it is important to pinch pennies as much as possible, including on the ever-important family vacation. To save some of that hard-earned cash while on vacation you need to begin before the vacation really starts.
There are many ways a person may save money on a vacation. First try figuring out how much money you are willing to spend on the vacation and then take that amount and divide it. Put aside the amount you wish to spend on food, hotel stay, travel expenses, attractions, and the souvenirs. Leave enough extra money in case of a possible emergency such as a flat tire or enigine trouble.
Sit the family around the dining room table and bring up low cost vacations like camping or a destination not very far from home. It is possible the kids will go for the idea of roughing it out in the wilds. Camping is a great way to get to know the family better. This decision would save a family enough money to possibly take a second camping trip later in the year.
If the low cost vacations were voted out by the family consider staying in a hotel between Mondays and Thursdays. The rooms are usually cheaper during the week depending on the hotel. Another way is to check ahead and make sure there are no special events planned for that weekend. If there is a holiday or local festival the hotel room costs are likely to be higher.
Consider planning everything through the Chamber of Commerce from hotel stays to amusements. In most every town if you contact the Chamber of Commerce during the planning stages of a vacation they can come up with discounts to hotels, restaurants, and local attractions. This is also a great way to make sure there are no festivals during the time of your stay to make your vacation less expensive.
Consider using these suggestions before your next vacation. It is just likely that you may be able to save quite a bit of money and still be able to enjoy your vacation. Remember, the cost of the vacation is not the important thing. Eliminate that burden and you will enjoy your vacation that much more.
