The Tripadvisor is a great travel website and resource for planning your next holiday. In 2011 it has selected the travelers’ choice of best destinations, ranking the best destinations in specific countries and continents. Among these continents Tripadvisor has ranked the top 25 destinations in Europe. These are a few of the top ranked traveler’s choice destinations for 2011.
Paris in France is ranked at the top of list, and is therefore the travelers’ choice best European destination. This cannot be considered that much of surprise when you consider some of the great places to visit in Paris. The Eiffel Tower is the city’s most famous icon, and it rises up to over 300 meters providing great views of the Paris skyline. Or you can visit some of the great cathedrals in Paris such as Notre Dame Cathedral located on the River Seine and the Sacre Coeur which is located at the summit of Monte Marte. The Louvre is also one of Europe’s most famous art galleries that houses a variety of art such as sculptures, paintings, prints and drawings, and decorate arts. Perhaps the most famous painting in the world, the Mona Lisa, is also displayed at this gallery. Paris also has Europe’s only Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, which has many great Disney themed rides as well as the Walt Disney Studios Park which includes four cinemagical studio lots. For all this Paris is ranked top of Tripadvisor’s best European destinations.
Rome, the eternal city, is ranked second in Tripadvisor’s top 25 European destinations. Visitors to Rome flock to the Colusseum and other great monuments in Rome such as the Pantheon temple. Rome also has a number of great museums and galleries such as the Galleria Borghese. Aside from this, the Vatican City is also located in Rome, home to one of the world’s largest and most famous cathedrals St Peters Basilica. Here you can also visit Vatican museums such as the Sistine Chapel. As such, Rome is a great European destination.
London is next on Tripadvisor’s top 25 European destinations. The capital of Britain and once the heart of the British Empire, London is a great city. In London you can visit the Tower of London which displays the crown jewels, Tate Modern gallery, the London Science Museum, the Natural History Museum, and the Royal Albert Hall. Or take a trip to the New Wembley Stadium which is home to the England soccer team that includes a Wembley museum which covers the history of the Old Wembley Stadium up to the new. During the summer months Buckingham Palace is also open for tours. These are just a few of London’s highlights.
After the above cities Spain’s Barcelona is ranked in fourth. Barcelona has some distinctive architecture with cathedrals such as the Sagrada Familia among its highlights. In addition to this, there are a number of art galleries in Barcelona such as Picasso’s Museum. The hill of Montjuic dominates the Barca skyline, and here you will find the old military fortification the Castel Montjuic which includes a military museum that displays a variety of military artifacts. Here you can also visit the Palau Nacional which has a collection of Renaissance and Baroque art. Barcelona also has the Nou Camp soccer stadium, home to the famous Barcelona soccer club. This stadium is one of the most famous soccer stadiums in the sport, and you can visit the stadium and its club museum which covers the history of this great club’s triumphs with a number of trophies displayed.
