California is home to some of the world’s most beautiful scenery. There is beautiful coastal scenery. There are majestic mountain ranges. It is home to vast desert landscapes as well as the Sequoia National Forest. There is hardly a place to drive in California that is not scenic. The most scenic drive, however, is along the famous Pacific Coast Highway, that goes all the way up the coast of California from the Mexico border all the way to Oregon. Pacific Coast Highway is dotted with some of the most beautiful scenery you will find anywhere. Here are just some of the highlights along this route, not to mention, the weather along this route is almost always beautiful.
San Diego is on PCH. Old town is not to be missed. It is also home to such world famous attractions as Sea World, the San Diego zoo, and the San Diego Wild Animal Park. Carlsbad Caverns are nearby as well. The beaches here are beautiful, and offer opportunities for such things as deep sea fishing and other activities on the ocean.
Huntington Beach is not too far up the coast from there. This is the place also known as Surf City, USA. Ruby’s Diner is at the end of Huntington Beach Pier for a good stop to eat where you can watch the surfers and seals play in the water. You can cast your line off the pier for fishing as well.
As you continue up the coast, you will pass by Long Beach, Malibu and continue up through Ventura County. The scenery is gorgeous as you look out over the water, and rocky beaches. As you continue north, one of the most beautiful places to stop and visit is San Simeon, home to Hearst Castle, as well as being home to some of the most beautiful scenery you have ever seen. The beaches here are very rocky, but are filled with beautiful moonstones and other semiprecious stones, all smoothed by the ocean into perfect little pebbles. Keep going north to San Francisco, home to the Golden Gate Bridge, the world’s best Chinatown, and Fisherman’s Wharf, where you can treat yourself to excellent fresh seafood, and a beautiful atmosphere.
This is only half of this beautiful ride up the coast of California, but it is a wonderful trip. To truly do California justice, you will need to take several trips, as there are even more drives that are just as beautiful.
