St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands with water as beautiful and clear as topaz diamonds is an island that wets anyone’s appetite for a tropical vacation. Ecstatically, I accepted the invitation to my sister’s destination wedding when it was in none other than St. Thomas. The month was May and I just graduated from college so it doubled as a reward for all the years of studying. Shopping, turquoise water as inviting as a million dollars in an open field and no one to claim it. Palm trees and island food were just a couple of the wonderful things to experience on the island of St. Thomas.
My family, my sister, her husband and their friends took a Carnival cruise to get there, which enabled us to see some other great Caribbean islands as well. I am more of an independent traveler, but I was happy to go on a cruise to see what everyone loved so much about them. There was lots of food, lots of water, and pretty spacious rooms our stops were the Bahamas, St. Thomas, and St. Marten all three had their own little charm. St. Thomas was the second stop on our trip.
At the St. Thomas Carnival dock the green foliage and flowers were absolutely beautiful. The day was perfect with the blue sky and fluffy white clouds and turquoise water sparkling in the sea. A man with a friendly white smile and wonderful island accent picked us up in a twenty-seater open air jeep with a green and white striped awning on the top. We drove past the main port town of Charlotte Amalie and arrived at the Emerald Beach Resort where the wedding was to be held. It is nestled along Lindbergh Bay on a beach surrounded by small cliffs and the bay is an awesome lagoon for swimming and snorkeling or just floating in the water with a raft.
The ceremony was beautiful, put on by Fantasia Weddings. There was an archway and a pathway of flowers to the ceremony right on the beach where my sister and her husband got married. After the wedding, everyone moved to the deck for food, drink and wedding cake. We all relaxed overlooking Lindbergh Bay. It was magical. We didn’t realize that we could have stayed and swam right there until it was time to go back to the cruise ship, but it all worked out anyway . We all took a great photo in the jeep and headed back to the ship to change.
My mom and I went shopping in downtown Charlotte Amalie and the rest of the crew went to Magens Bay. They had drinks while relaxing in the water. My mom and I had a great time looking at the quaint shops with artwork from local artists and we bought a bunch of T-shirts at a small flea market. We also had a great walk back to the ship and ended the day with glass of wine while the whole party watched the lit Harbor of Charlotte Amalie. It was magical. St. Thomas is one of the most beautiful islands in the Caribbean there is something about the greenery, the climate, and the geography that makes the island so colorful and pure.
