There is nothing better on a Walt Disney World vacation then staying on the Disney Property. While staying on Disney property can be very expensive, there are some options for the traveler who can not afford a $300 per night room. With rooms from $82 to $160 per night depending on time of year, Disney’s All-Star Music Resort is one of the options.
Disney’s All-Star Music opened in November of 1994 with 1,920 rooms divided into five theme sections. Recently 384 of the rooms were converted into 192 family suites. Currently there are 192 families suites and 1,536 rooms. The five themes are Calypso, Jazz Inn, Rock Inn, Country Fair and Broadway Hotel. Each of the five sections are decorated to match the sections theme.
Disney’s All-Star Music resort has two pools and a play ground. The Calypso pool is the resort’s main pool, it is shaped like a guitar and features the Three Caballeros shooting jets of water in the center of the pool. The Grand Piano Pool is shaped like a piano, and is located between the Rock Inn, Country Fair, and Broadway Hotel sections. The playground is located between the Jazz Inn and Calypso sections of the resort. There is also a coin operated laundry mat located near both of the pools. Located next to the Calypso Pool is Singing Spirits Pool Bar.
Melody Hall is the main entrance for the resort. In front of Melody Hall are the Disney Transportation Bus stops that take resort guest to the Walt Disney World Parks and Downtown Disney. Disney Transportation is free to all resort guest. Traveling times to the parks range from 10 to 30 minutes depending on which park you are traveling to. Melody Hall is also where you will find the Check-in Lobby, Concierge services, Disney’s Magical Express, Note’able Arcade, Maestro Mickey’s Gift Shop, and Intermission Food Court. Maestro Mickey’s Gift shop offers a variety of souvenirs, as well as basic toiletries. The food court offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. The foot court also sells a mug that is good for refills for your entire stay. The refillable mug can be a big money saver if you plan on eating many of you meals at the resort.
The rooms at All-Star Music are 260 square feet, and are decorated to match the theme of the resort. Furnishings include a 27″ TV, two chairs, a table, and either two double beds, or a single king size bed. Roll away cots are available, however, maximum room occupancy is four people. All rooms include an in-wall safe, the safes are small but perfect for keeping cash or jewelry in. For an additional fee a refrigerator can be brought to the room. The rooms also feature a high speed internet connection. Rooms accommodating guest with disabilities are available upon request.
The Family Suites are 520 Square feet and sleep up to six people. The family suites feature two full size bathrooms, and a kitchenette with microwave, and a small refrigerator. The family suites are furnished with a queen size bed, a pull out sofa, and 2 convertible chair sleepers. The room also has two 27″ screen TV’s, a desk, and a table and chairs.
There are many advantages to staying on Disney property including the unlimited use of Disney transportation, Disney Magical Express and Extra Magic hours. The use of Disney transportation and Disney’s Magical express make it possible to visit Disney without renting a car. Disney’s Magical Express is free bus service provided to your Disney resort from the Orlando airport. Disney Transportation provides transportation to all of Walt Disney World’s theme parks, and Downtown Disney. Also staying at a Walt Disney World resort entitles you to free parking at the Disney theme parks if you choose to drive your own vehicle. Disney’s Extra Magic hours are times in the morning and evening when the theme parks are only open to Walt Disney World resort guest. Finally, staying at a Walt Disney World resort allows you to charge purchases at the parks back to your room, as well as have those purchases delivered to your room.
The disadvantages of Disney’s All-Star Music resort are the crowds, the small rooms, and the sharing of buses with the other All-Star resorts. The rooms are fairly small, a family of four may find that these rooms provide rather tight quarters for a weeks vacation. The crowds at All-Star Music tend to be dominated by families with small children. The crowds also tend to be large. However, the large crowds only a real problem waiting for a bus when the parks open in the morning, and when the parks close at night. The resort also sometimes has to share buses with Disney’s All-Star Sport’s, and Disney’s All-Star Movies. This is most likely to occur in the middle of the day when crowds are light, or during the slow times of the year when crowds are lighter.
The Disney All-Star Music resort offers families an affordable way to stay on Walt Disney property. While the cost may still be more than what a hotel off property cost, the value needs to be weighed against the savings of not having to rent a vehicle, or having to pay parking at the Disney theme parks and the other benefits of staying on Disney property. This resort is best suited for people who plan on spending their entire vacation at Walt Disney World, and the majority of their time in the theme parks.
