The city of Bath brings to mind visions of Jane Austen’s heroines and their quest for romance. What could be more romantic than staying in the Duke of Wellington’s former home that he shared with his love interest. Apsley House has everything the romantic could want, history, luxury and attentive service and best of all you don’t need to be noble to afford to stay here.
For a particularly romantic stay there are five rooms that feature either a canopy or a very special bed. The Romance Room has blue and white toile decor, the Wellington Room has a California king and a chaise lounge, and in the basement the former kitchen is now a romantic haven in scarlet with silk hangings and a private exit to the garden. These rooms include a large bathroom with tub and shower.
If you are looking for a little less luxury for a little less money there are standard rooms that are well and beautifully furnished and include a bathroom with shower. Brown and Moulton soap, shampoo and shower gel is provided.
All the rooms include a trouser press, wireless internet access, TV with satellite and tea tray. Beds have luxury linens and there are bottles of spring water provided on the night stand. All the rooms have additional seating, high ceilings and plenty of lights for reading romance novels.
On the entrance level there is a parlor for guests with comfortable seating, fireplace and honor bar which is very well stocked. Newspapers and magazines are arranged on the tables. The garden will be a welcome retreat in the warm months and there are excellent views from the back of the hotel.
Breakfast is included in the rate. There is a dining room also on the entrance level. A Continental buffet is offered on the side board and includes cereal, fresh fruit both whole and cut up and juice. Coffee, tea or hot chocolate will be served by a waitress and there is a menu of hot entrees including a full English breakfast, smoked salmon, kippers and also real American pancakes with maple syrup.
A parking lot is located in front of the house. The center of Bath is about a mile away, if you enjoy walking, it is a nice stroll. A taxi ride can be arranged and costs about 7GBP. This street doesn’t have any restaurants but there are a few within a 10 minute walk. Food delivery can be arranged and the staff will provide plates, silverware and glasses.
The level of service at this hotel is extremely high and every effort is made to make your stay a memorable one. Both the owners and the managers are on site to attend to any need you may have. Their web site has pictures to help you to pick the room which best suits your needs or taste. When it come to romance, they have raised it to the level of a science.
