A Visitors Guide to Preston Things to do in Preston Places to Visit in Lancashire

Preston is a small city located in central Lancashire. This city sits at the head of the Ribble River and is just a few miles from the coast. The population of the city is over one hundred and twenty five thousand and the city is a busy place all year round. Preston was granted city status back in 2002 and was the fiftieth place in England to be named a city.

If you are looking to stay in Preston there are plenty of excellent hotels in the area. The most well known one is the Tickled Trout that lies just of the M6 motorway. There are also lot’s of smaller guesthouses and bed and breakfasts in the area. Preston can be a good place to use as a base for visiting other areas in and around Lancashire.

Preston town centre is thought to be probably the best in Lancashire and is a great place to go shopping. The Mall has plenty of modern shops offering everything that you could really wish for. There are clothes shops, technology shops, art galleries, stationary shops, cafes and bars and lots of other interesting things to look round in the town centre. There are also some really good quality book shops in the town that are great fun to look round.

Preston is also home to the football club known as Preston North End. The season runs from August through to May and there is always a great atmosphere on a match day. There are a few nice golf courses in the area and also a few pitch and putt courses that can be good fun. Preston also has a good swimming pool and also a few leisure centres that offer a variety of sports. Just a few miles outside of Preston is the theme park Camelot. This has a medieval theme and there are some great rides and other attractions that make a great day out for the family.

There are also some really great spots to visit that are not far from Preston. Blackpool is only a twenty minute drive from Preston and offers some great places to visit, this is a seaside town with a world famous reputation. A little further away is the Lake District, it’s about an hour drive up the M6 to get there but there really is some stunning scenery to enjoy in the area. Preston can be an ideal place to use as a base for visiting many of the local attractions.

Overall Preston is a nice little city to visit. There is plenty going on in the city itself and plenty of other great places to visit in the area. If you have never been to Preston maybe it’s time you paid it a visit.
