Plymouth is a large city in the South West of England. The city lies on the south coast of the county of Devon. Plymouth is also one of the largest ports on the south coast and is also known as a great shipbuilding city. The city has a population of just over two hundred and fifty thousand people making this the fifteenth largest city in England. The city has a bustling community and is popular with tourists visiting from all over the world.

If you are planning to stay in Plymouth then you have plenty of options when it comes to hotels. Some of the more well known ones include The Boringdon Hall Hotel, The Jurys Inn, The New Continental Hotel and The Duke of Cornwall Hotel. These are all well established hotels with good reputations for excellent services and rooms. There are lots of other hotels in the city ranging from large hotels to small bed and breakfasts. There is also some really nice countryside around Plymouth that has lots of privately owned holiday homes available for rent. These are great if you are looking for self catering accommodation around the city.

Many people head to the city to make use of the shopping facilities. This is an excellent city to shop in and you really can find anything in the wide range of shops. Head for Armada Way which is near the city centre, here you will find all the major retailers and some lovely little coffee shops. The Independent Quarter is a large shopping centre that had some interesting shops and is an ideal place to look for gifts and souvenirs. Plymouth also has a relatively new shopping centre known as Drake Circus, it has lots of shops to choose from and plenty of places to dine out.

There are plenty of attractions in Plymouth to enjoy. There is the Plymouth City Museum which is an interesting place to look round if you enjoy learning about local history and culture. The National Marine Aquarium is Britain’s largest aquarium with Europe’s deepest tank, there are some amazing attraction in here and it’s a great place to visit with the family. Smeaton’s Tower is an unusual lighthouse set in a lovely area of the city, this is another attraction that is worth a look. There are lots of other museums, galleries and park to explore in the city, you really could spend weeks here and not get round all the attractions.

Plymouth can be a great place to use as a base while you explore the south coast. You are only a few miles from Cornwall here and there is some stunning coastline and great beaches in this county. Devon also has some great scenery, quaint little villages and interesting towns to look round. The city really is in an area with so much to offer visitors.
